Taking max advantage of TMobile offer

Been looking at possibly switching over to TMob. They have a couple of really nice veterans plans (4 lines for either $100 or $140 FLAT). These plans, coupled with their offer to pay off up to $1000 per phone buyout on a transfer is really intriguing.
I'm curious if anyone on here has ever tried to max this out. The iphone 13 max retails for $1000. What if I were to upgrade all four of our lines to iphone 13 max via ATT and then immediately switch to TMob, ostensibly using their offer to get 4 free new phones?
Am I missing something or does this seem like a legit play?

I would make sure that the phone payoff applies to the military and first responders plans. I am on the military plan and a lot of promotions they run don’t apply to me

At one time there was max payout per line/family plan. Make sure you wouldn't be hitting that if it still exists.
