So I noticed my synology NAS was acting strangely this morning, it was sluggish, and I was having difficulty downloading to it. I kept getting i/o errors. When I logged into the synology page I saw that one of my raid drives was putting off bad sector warnings. The NAS says the raid array is healthy and the specific hard drive is still safe.

My question Is how quickly do I need to replace the drive? Nobody close to me has the size drive I need in store, and shipping will get here next Friday, wed at the earliest. Am I ok to wait it out? Should I shut down the entire NAS until I get a new drive, or can I continue using it?

Also, will replacing the drive likely fix my slow issues and i/o downloading errors? I would think that the bad hard drive is the issue but I’m not sure.

What RAID type did you set it up as? If you have redundant drives, then I'd probably say you're safe to wait on shipping. But that's ultimately up to you.

It’s set with one drive failure. I just used synology’s hybrid raid system. Theoretically raid array is setup to withstand one drive failure, but I’ve not dealt with a raid issue yet so I’m just curious how time sensitive it is to replace drives I guess.

As long as you're running in it in RAID or SHR then you have plenty of time to order a drive and get it shipped to you.
