Smallest and cheapest PC that can run steam?

Looking for a mini PC that I can connect to my tv to run steam on. Not going to be playing intense games, just stuff like sim city and coaster planet. Any suggestions? Also, can you point me in the right direction of where to buy it?
I am looking at the HP Chromebox, could that work?

Steam itself isn't all that much, so a lot of things can play it. Best to find which game will be the most taxing and go from there.
Mini PCs don't typically have dedicated graphics processors or memory for that, so they're not going to do all that well. They do make them though, but I think they tend to run $400-$600 for an i5. It really depends on what games.
Coaster Planet, for example, does recommend a dedicated GPU. Nothing crazy, but you'll want a MiniPC with an Nvidia or Raedon GPU in it.
These would probably be sufficient, presuming you stick to your gaming limits and don't go crazy:

Someone else may have more experience with MiniPCs though, and I would certainly default to them if that's the case.

If you have another gaming PC, or at least one that can handle the games well enough and won't be in use while you play you can stream it to a cheap PC connected to the TV. Steam used to sell little streaming devices for just this purpose but I think they may have stopped. Might be available on eBay or the like though.
Don't forget to think about controlling it. Mice tend to suck to use on a TV. They make keyboards with a touchpad on the side that work pretty well. A controller, especially the steam one are another option

Not for games that require Windows
