I have Xfinity internet with a supposedly max download speed of 300 MB/s. So far I've been able to get 200 with a wired connection to a Netgear n600 modem. Fastest wifi I've achieved is around 45 MB/s with various devices. Is this normal? Do i need a new modem? Recommendations please. Thanks very much.

Yes, you need a new modem. That particular one only can link up to 8 carriers down and 4 up. You need to upgrade to a 32 down and 8 up. Also, buy a separate modem and router. Asus, Netgear and TP Link make good stuff.

All you need is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem for that package. Anything faster will need to be DOCSIS 3.1. I used to work for them.
