Recommendation for laptop/tablet request

Asking for someone who’s only need is to check emails, browse the internet and Skype. No need to Microsoft applications like Word or excel.
Is there a particular laptop with only these basics or is a tablet more ideal? This is for an older person not especially tech savvy.

Chromebook? Samsung Pro or Asus Flip? Best of both worlds and dead simple for a user like that...

It depends on what you want to use it for.

Sure... except he answered that in the OP.
You certainly could get a tablet, but I would say it depends on the end user. If they're more comfortable with a regular keyboard (I know my older relatives are) over a touch screen, a Chromebook like one of the 2 I referenced might be the best bet... will give them access to what they want with a dead simple OS, a simple attached physical keyboard, and then a touchscreen/tablet like experience if/when they decide they want it. There will be trade offs with anything, but I'd say if the use case is that simple, you should at least check them out.

Chromebook is probably the best solution as they would appreciate the physical keyboard. If you are going to go with a tablet, a Windows tablet would probably be the best option as the large menu tiles will be easier to see than the icon based UI of the android/iOS tablets.
