I'm still using an old Linksys black and blue router. We tried to upgrade once before, but whatever router we tried wouldn't sync with my TiVo.

Not that Linksys has even said anything about the WPA2 security issue, but there hasn't been a firmware update for my router in a long time. I've never done one, and as of last week there are none available.

It's way past time for us to upgrade anyway. Can someone recommend a good router with a krack patch? Medium to large size house, not a ton of things to connect (laptop, two smart phones, blu-ray, TiVo...we don't have a bunch of IoT devices). We stream Prime video and Netflix and I work at home. Thanks in advance!

Just got an email with the following from the Plume folks:

"Earlier this month, a significant vulnerability was disclosed in the WPA2 Wi-Fi security protocol that could affect both wireless access points and Wi-Fi clients. We quickly summarized these “Key Reinstallation Attack” issues in this Plume blog post.

Our engineering team immediately incorporated preventative patches to the security components of our Pod firmware. After extensive beta testing, we are rolling out the update, firmware version 1.8.0, to the entire Plume WiFi community. You can read the complete release notes here.

With your cloud-managed Plume WiFi network, you don’t need to lift a finger to get these updates. We automatically update your Pods over-the-air to deliver security, reliability, and performance improvements.

If you have any questions, just reach out to hello@plumewifi.com.

Sincerely,
Team Plume"

You need to patch your clients, probably not your router. Routers being used in normal "router" mode don't need to be patched unless they implement 802.11r, which most don't. From a router standpoint, you may have more to worry about due to the WPS vulnerability and other older flaws.

I really like the Asus RT-AC68U, but no patch yet. They did patch the 88U and say they're working on their other current routers.

BTW, you can mitigate KRACK by using a VPN with your clients, which guarantees you have encryption on top of WPA2. Connecting only to correctly functioning HTTPS sites works, too. I'm using a VPN on my iPhone until Apple releases iOS 11.1, which reportedly has the patch. I don't expect my Sony BD player will ever be patched, though.
