i currently have the anker one pictured above. when trying to hardwire from wall ethernet jack to anker hub and then to macbook usb-c, my macbook does not connect to the internet.

i've rebooted, disabled wifi and rebooted, etc. and appear to have everything enabled on the usb-c connection as far as I can tell (screenshot below with wifi enabled and disabled) and it status shows connected with wifi is disabled.

is my problem the usb 10/100/1000 lan has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet message because i am using the anker device and not the thunderbolt device from apple?

if not, how do i figure out the self-assigned IP address?

I don't think the device should matter, it theoretically should just be transferring data from your Ethernet cable through to the Thunderbolt connection. I got my wife this one that is similar, and it always connects right away when she plugs her MacBook Air in.

No.

You have a self-assigned IP address because your device cannot reach a DHCP server. In most residential environments, that's your router. Have you tried plugging directly into your router?

is this an apple customer service issue or my internet provider issue? in terms of helping me.
