Its not the $3. Its the $25/$35 off FireTV that holds the value...

Yea, you get the 2.99 in credit that you can use on anything.
It doesnt show anything else until the trade in is processed and you add them to the cart and you will see the $25 and $35 off.
I was afraid of only the 2.99 as well.
So for my 4k Ultra it was 34.99 on prime day - $25 trade in credit and -$2.99 of the other credit that i could have used on anything.
Then, you also get to use it on the fire tv cube.
CLUTCH. SO i ended up getting $2.99+$35+$25 for an Apple TV 2nd generation.
