Got a random text in the middle of the night and opened it this morning. It was obvious spam with a pic of some chubby chick in a bikini top saying hello. I got an iPhone...is my phone full of malware now? A good free malware app for iPhones?

Just curious...what would be the scam/intent here? Get a response to add you to an active spam list, try to get you to respond to get info, get you to press the pic to open it for some reason like opening a link?

Not unless you clicked a link or something.

Not really necessary.

They probably are hoping you'll respond, then they'll either send a link or begin some grift to find ways to get you to part with your money or PII.

...but how does a text like this do all that?

Just opening the text get it kicked off or did I have to respond and/or press in the pic to open it to get what they needed on my phone?

Ok cool. Yeah just deleted it and reported it as junk. Definitely wasn't responding, but opened it. So wanted to make sure. Thanks.

I just keep hearing these things are getting more creative, and the basics like the Amazon missed shpt with a link ones are obvious. Just wondering if the pic could be embedded with something if actually pressed on and opened. Only thing I could see myself doing is it were a funny meme instead of some cute chubby chick.

There have certainly been some zero-click exploits in the past (their might even be some out there now), but they're very expensive to buy. So, unless you're a high-value target, chances are it's just someone trying to get you to navigate to a website where they can steal your credentials.
