Odd iMessage issue of deleting half of text?

So I see that iOS 11.0.3 is out, but it doesn’t appear to have addressed this odd issue some of my family members are having.

Issue:
It seems that if they send a text with a double hyphen (don’t know why someone would, but it is a habit of theirs), then the text will fully send, and be there for a few moments (usually a few seconds), then will delete everything after the hyphen. It disappears from both the phone of the person who receives the text, and the person who sent the text. This has happened on a combination of different iPhones.


Both of those received text had more behind the “—“ but it disappeared. I wasn’t able to make the error occur when I sent one in those text.



When I search this issue it doesn’t seem well addressed. All of the help topics I find usually have to do with the update deleting old text.

Anyone else experience this? Know of a solution?
