Funny they can come to terms now. Also didn’t understand how a free OTA channel pulled this.

It is called retransmission consent/must carry rules from the FCC. It is given to Full power and some low power tv stations so that they can receive compensation for the cable system carrying their channel.
The way the rule works is that: a station can ask a cable system to carry them if they meet the signal requirements, but if the cable system declines to carry then a compensation deal is usually hammered out, but if the cable system declines, the TV station can them ask for Must Carry Status and the cable system is required to carry that station for no compensation.
Every so many years, the stations have make the choice of Must Carry or ReTransmission Consent.
Lately, the TV stations and networks behind them are getting greedy asking for more money.
