Finally pulled the trigger on a TV for the bedroom. Nothing fancy at all, just a 32 inch to watch stuff at night without sitting on the couch. I grabbed an older Roku we had from years ago that wasn't being used, and had some picture quality and buffering issues. I think it was how far it is from the router and I was probably connected to the 2.4G network. My fire stick only connects to the 5G.

I'm just not used to the Roku interface at all since we have the fire stick in the living room. So I ordered a new fire stick with the alexa voice remote. After that I tried the old fire stick, and it was working great. What are the main differences between the first fire stick and the latest one? I assume better processing and other specs. I also saw an option to add an Ethernet adapter for $15, which wasn't available when I first got the fire stick. How well do these work? I'd have to run some more cables, but at the same time I could move my router to the basement to make that easier to run wires.

The plan is to get a wall mount soon, and put one of those recessed plug and wire runs behind it so everything is hidden. It looks fine sitting on the dresser, but having it higher on the wall and everything clean will be better. I just want to place one more order and get it all done at the same time. I already have to add a splitter to my antenna coax so I want to just get it all reconfigured at once as far as running cables.

I found that the firetv is much better and faster than the fire stick. I also had a problem with my fire stick overheating. Never had that issue with the fire tv.

The main reason I didn't order the Fire TV is that I don't need 4k. Like I said, this TV is nothing fancy. We have a discount store nearby that sells all kinds of stuff. They had some Samsung TVs back in the fall, and I was wanting a bedroom TV around a 32 inch, maybe up to a 40 if the price was cheap enough. Of course they sold all they had before Christmas, but I found a 32 inch RCA in there for $100 this weekend. It had decent reviews from what I could find about this model number online, so for that price it was perfect. Screen looks great and the sound is good.

When you say overheating, does it shut itself down? I've had the original fire stick since they were first announced and I got one for $20 and have never had an issue with it. And it gets heavy use most days between streaming stuff for my kids after school and us watching stuff at night. I think it ran on New Year's Day for 12 hours non-stop.

i have it. The reviews are bad because it is advertised as a Fire TV when really it is a new Fire Stick.

no hardwired capability without an adapter, not as powerful as the older Firetv. Just has HDR. I havent had issues with mine but i was mad cause i was under the understanding i was buying a new fireTV not a new Firestick.

Yeah I saw that when I was looking the other night. It seemed like a stick but hanging from a cable. When I saw no Ethernet without the adapter I figured I'd just order the stick and get the adapter if I needed it. But my first gen stick is working fine in the bedroom, so I may not need hardwired. Still trying to decide.

Mine doesn't seem slow at all. The only apps I've had trouble with are owned by Disney. So I have to use Sling to watch football this time of year. Cheaper than a meal and drinks for a one month subscription. And Disney Jr App has improved, but still slow to switch between things within the app. Same with WatchESPN. Netflix, HBO, Amazon prime shows, etc all work great.

I have both versions of fire tv. I have the original hard wired and the new one hooked up by WiFi. The both work great for me.

With my firstick it would overheat and shut down. Even when it was not in use and just plugged into the tv it was so hot to touch that I was beginning to think it was a fire hazard. I only use the fire stick now if I’m traveling and always unplug when not in use.

We got a Fire TV and a Firestick in December. I have to restart the Fire Tv everytime I turn it on because the screen is out of whack and you cant navigate it.

No issues with firestick at all.

Are you putting firetv in sleep mode when you are done using it?

I select "sleep mode" almost every time. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

I think my stick automatically goes into sleep mode. On Amazon stuff, when a movie or show is done, the screensaver will come on if you don't do anything. And Netflix has the screen that pops up asking if you're still watching. I think the only thing that would keep playing is ESPN. I've left it running all day during football season and never seen a message pop up or the screensaver. But if I hit the home button it will eventually go screensaver then to sleep.

I looked on E Bay and they are selling the used 2nd gen for as much as $160.00. If my 2nd Fire Tv goes out (a little over a year old) I am going with another brand.
