Mass deleting photos/movies from Iphone Text messages

After finding that i have gigs and gigs of data in my "other" category and i know that a lot of that is videos and pictures in text messages.
With Phoneview i have been able to save pics from texts and text strings.
Is there any way other than the slow, manual, "load Earlier messages" way to go through all texts and delete the videos and pictures?
eta: i would like ot keep the text message threads, so i dont want to just delete the whole thing.

Can you delete an entire conversation from a particular person? That would be the easiest way without losing ALL your texts.

I haven't found another easier way. I've searched around a fair amount before.
There's a program out there that extracts the data from your iPhone backup that you can use to delete the media from messages (don't recall program name, and haven't used it). So you backup your phone, extract data, delete media, then restore from backup to that media-less version.
