Macbook question about screen recording

How do I set it to where the screen recording on a MacBook Pro will turn on the sound? I record a video and no sound.

My understanding is that it will record with a microphone only. So you have to play sound through the speakers and then record the sound separately. Of course you will then lose sound quality.
Command+shift+5
Click "Options" and select the preferred microphone before recording.
