MacBook Pro sleep mode issues

2017 MacBook Pro appears to keep running when it should be in sleep mode. Running down battery and heating up.
Anyone dealt with this. Fully updated. Cools down when opened and functioning.

Did you recently update? I've been having issues with mine since updating to Sonoma. I thought I had fixed it by cleaning everything really well (I thought there might be some grit keeping it from fully shutting or magnetizing closed). Some others have said to look at your settings in System Preference and make sure that it's not "waking for Network access." I have that set to Never. I thought I had fixed it all, then it did it again last night. Woke up to a dead laptop battery.
Really annoying because one of the joys of my Macbook was being able to not have it out for a weekend or longer, open it up, and still have a full battery.

It did it before the most recent up date. It’s a students. Will ask if it’s done it since but I think it did. Just going to tell them to shut down every time until Apple appt.
