Laptop and webcam microphone issues on MS Teams video calls

My HP Zbook is about 3 years old, and up until recently had no audio issues. I can still make and receive calls through the Teams interface, and doesn't seem to have the same issues as when I join a Teams meeting. The computer will let me use my Airpods, but I think it may be a Teams thing, it won't use them as the microphone, just as headphones.
I was tired of always opening my laptop for meetings, so I bought a Nexigo webcam with a microphone, and I have it configured as the default microphone. Neither using that or the built in microphone work very well, but only on meetings, calls are fine. The only time I really have it work the way it is supposed to is undocking the laptop and staying on WiFi, opening the laptop and using the built in mic and camera. Seems to me that staying docked and connected via ethernet would be the best for audio/video, but it just isn't so.
Any ideas?

Makes me think some driver issues may be at play. Maybe do a system bios update and see if there are any HP system updates related to audio/video drivers?

Same as above, audio drivers, bios and chipset updates.
