Keep losing internet to PC over Ethernet

Have a desktop upstairs wired to router over Ethernet, but it keeps losing internet connection (continues to display "connected to "network""), and stays disconnected until I reset the Ethernet adapter.
I tried plugging in a laptop to the same Ethernet cord and the same thing happened.
Computer is connected over Ethernet due to distance from wifi source.
What gives? I need a new router?

try a different cable
Yep. Take a different cable down to your router and plug the laptop in and see if you get the same thing. If it isn't a bad cable, you may have a port on the router messing up.

Cable was problem it seems. I changed to another cable and it works fine now.

1. Check cabling and reboot,
2. If problem persists, try to repeat with another (preferably trusted) cable
ALWAYS do these steps first before going any further into troubleshooting. These actually correct about 90, 95 percent of PC problems.

Always eliminate the physical layer first!
