iPhone Touch Disease - Any Apple support?

is anybody having any luck getting Apple to step up with something when a 6 or 6+ shows Touch Disease and is out of warranty?
I find it hard to believe they will not have to eventually come up with a plan to deal with this that is better than paying $300 for a replacement that will just do the same thing.
I know there is a lawsuit seeking class action status, but that is not much of a solution when the phone is useless right now. I've heard some anecdotal stories of getting credit toward a new 6S, but it seems to be hit or (mostly) miss.
T-Mobile has a nice promo for trading in for a new 7 for free, but I don't want a 7. I would actually refer a 6S. The headphone thing is a killer for me.
Any experiences out there?
