I have maybe 3-4 email accounts in my mail app, and today it was showing multiple unread in my gmail account, like it is every morning. Go into that one, and after deleting a few new ones, and reading the rest, it still said there were 3 unread. I filter on unread, and nothing shows up. Anyone else having this issue? I'm wondering if it isn't refreshing, but when I checked my email on the computer it shows no unread messages now. Yes, I'm one of those people that hates the red circles and my wife's phone with 243 unread texts and 1,598 unread email notification drives me crazy.

Sometimes the server just doesn’t update well when you are using the third party mail app to check gmail. Your options are to restart the phone and see if that clears it or wait.

Otherwise, download the gmail app and use it.

I switched to using Outlook on my iPhone and MacBook for this (and other) reasons.

Just wanted to give an update. Have no clue what happened or how, but it finally refreshes and shows unread mail from February of 2020. Three companies I’m on a mailing list for. I went back to the laptop and scrolled until I was at this same date and they weren’t there. Also searched by the sender and the only ones in my inbox were from the last couple of weeks. Deleted them from the phone mail app and now it’s cleared out.

Do you have the ability to archive and delete? Archive can store them and in the unread state. Delete removed them. Also, Gmail accounts can have folders for spam, junk, and social media/chat. Perhaps it was in one of those folders rather than the inbox when you checked.
