Aside from a better camera, more memory, and a faster processor...the big difference between the iPhone 11 and previous generations of the device is a difference you may not want: the U1 chip.

Described as "GPS on the level of your living room", this will give the phone to communicated with other similarly equipped Apple devices...and track you more closely than a smartphone has ever been able to track you before.
The technology has really reached an inflection point where the user is going to have to make some real decisions about whether they continue to participate on an ever more intrusive smartphone experience...or get a dumb phone and have a wifi only tablet for certain apps.

The real movement sneaking up on everyone is going to be medically wearable technology. Apple Watch is pioneering way. Look for some sensor capabilities in the band soon.

Cellular technology is always improving with each iteration of phones.
Unfortunately for Apple, iPhones are usually the last phones to adopt new cellular technology. Features such as new LTE bands, DL Carrier Aggregation (now up to 5CA), UL Carrier Aggregation, 4x4 MIMO, VoLTE, and 256 QAM were first adopted by Android phones. The same thing will be true with 5G technologies.

Once phones become the brains for our AR Glasses the race will be back on.

Also in line with our phones becoming the brains for AR Glasses, what about Ultrawide Band? iPhone is the first to adopt. Also they are normally the last to adopt new cellular tech because they're working at a scale no other phone maker is as well as having very tight battery constraints.

5G and improved battery life are going to be the next features people will shell out for.
Unfortunately, they won't have to offer much more than 5G to have record sales, once implemented. However, I think 5G will be much slower to get into place than 4G/LTE, but once in place will be revolutionary - "wired" will be a thing for only security minded "old fogies" (like me) at that point.
With a good 5G signal, you won't have to worry about popping on the Starbucks WiFi - won't nobody have time fo that at that point.
