I am assuming that (xx) xxxx-xxxx is some sort of non-US telephone format.

Since the latest iOS update earlier this week, I am getting strange results making telephone calls with "Hey Siri."

Previously, when I said "Hey Siri, call (aaa) xxx-00000" it would display that number onscreen IN THAT FORMAT, recite it back to me IN THAT FORMAT, dial it and open the Phone app with that number displayed in that format.

Now, when I say the same thing, Siri displays and recites the telephone number back to me in the format "(aa) axxx-0000" before switching to the Phone app. This is very distracting, because your brain is wired to see/hear area code (3 digits), followed by exchange (3 digits) and then the 4-digit number.

Has anyone else seen this, and does anyone know how to get it back to the proper US format?

Yes, I have searched online for an answer ... with no success. Thx

To the extent that anyone was interested, I found the source of the problem.

I had Region set for USA and language to American English, but I was using the Irish female voice, which I had been using for several years.

For some reason, the new iOS update seems to have switched the format to an Irish phone format since I was using the Irish voice (even in the USA). I switched to the USA female voice, and the phone format corrected itself.

It is weird. The format stays correct with voices from America, Australia, Britain, and South Africa. The format gets screwy with Irish and Indian. JUST THE VOICES, not the Language or region.
