My gf has an iPhone 4 and I'd like to give her my old iPhone 5, but the SIM cards are different. Do I have to bring the phones to AT&T or can I switch it over to her over the phone?

She'll need a new SIM. AT&T will do it for free.

If you have enough sim cards that fit in your new phone and your old 5, all it takes is an activiation call to AT&T. They will deactivate her old phone, activate your old sim card/phone on her account after you have deactivated your 5 and activated your new phone.

Or you can just go to an AT&T store like already suggested and they will do it.

You actually can cut the SIM down to size, google will give you the specs, then it's plug and play.

Stores use to have cutters that do it quick and accurate as well. I think they just give new ones out now though.

They do, and probably easier too. I cut one for my niece a while back, not the most fun project. Not difficult, just tedious, if we werent in BFE when she asked me I would have just taken her to AT&T.
