Home Theater Subwoofer in Seat Riser?

I'm building a riser/platform for the second row of seats in our home theater and considering placing a subwoofer in it. Do any of y'all have experience or advice on this? Platform will be about 94"x42"x16".

I'd put butt shakers in a riser before I'd put a sub.
Either one will mean that the construction has to be rock solid. If anything and I mean anything is loose there will be rattles and unwanted noise.
ETA: There can also be serious acoustic issues with a subwoofer in a riser. Proper subwoofer response curves are predicated on proper placement in the room and putting it in a riser eliminates any other possibility.

What @VABuckeye said.
The butt thumpers are great, but get you a really good amp for your sub, and a really good sub. I have a Meridian sub with two 10" sub speakers and response range if between 20Hz-400Hz. You really don't need butt thumpers in my media room because you really feel the deep bass sound waves rolling off you from this sub.

Do you have a full digital Meridian setup? Fantastic systems.

quote:No, and this will seem "old school", but in my media room, because of the room layout it is not conducive to using an Atmos sound system. It's over a garage and the side walls in the media room only rise 4', then follow the roof pitch gable to a center height of 10'. Then there are two dormers, so an Atmos system would be extremely difficult to calibrate. Also, the projector is not Dolby Vision capable, anyway, so I still use a Sony STR-DA777ES 5.2 amplifier. At the time, it was Sony's flagship amp and it weighs 54 pounds! It has immense power with the delicacy to produce the most minute nuances in music or home theater sources. The circuitry is amazing... Especially the bass redirection controls.

I wouldnt enclose a sub like that, would seem like it would be very boomy. I have 3 definitive subs behind my screen and added an SVS sub that sits off to the side. I would find another spot for it

For the money, SVS subs cannot be beat.
