Help! Ripping my dvds to external hard drive won’t play on plex

I have decided to convert my dvd collection to digital and play on my plex server. I have used handbrake to rip the dvds and i test the videos with vlc player.
When I try to play on my plex, some work and some give a playback error. What am I missing and how can I correct it. Do I need a special usb cable?
Thanks for help!

You should have tried using MakeMKV.

You ripping them to mp4 or mkv? I find that mkv has less issues with playback on more devices than mp4 when using Plex

If you're really serious about Plex a couple of us on here could hook you up with a much better way to get your movies digitized and not dvd quality...

I have most of them ripped on my external hard drive already. Just trying to figure out why some play and others don’t. Tried ripping one to mkv and that helped

Serious question: being 2021 and all wouldn't you rather have 1080p or 4K versions?

Honestly.. most of these movies are just for nostalgia purposes... i have enough streaming services to watch most of these movies

Use makemkv to rip dvd to a file.
Then use handbrake to make it mp4.
