Google Voice Phantom (hijacked) Outbound Calls

Twice in the last 2 weeks, I had 2 people call me and said they were returning my call. Happened again just a few minutes ago. Hadn't placed a call all morning. Checked my GV calling log - no outbound calls to those numbers. One of the callers called back a few hours later and said it happened again. They merely pressed the number in their call log to call me back so I know it wasn't a dialing error.
Both callers had the same area code and 3 digit prefix as me, so I assume they also used Google Voice. Any ideas?

Most likely, they didn't hijack your GV account. Instead, they probably used typical slimy spammer tech to impersonate your number when calling someone else.
It's the modern version of spamming people via email, and using a fake "sent by" email address.
