Flashing USB blue light @ rear connection (resolved***)

Brother b/w laser printer just purchased today. Support says it normal. I have never seen flashing usb connectons before. a little annoying to say the least.
printer works fine. cable is practically new, heavy duty build. any
ideas?
*** someone years back gave me a heavy duty usb cable. upon further inspection, the cable has a led on one end which flashes when component is on. swapped out, all is good.

I'm having a hard time visualizing what you're talking about. Picture or link?
There are some tinted stickers that I've used a few times, but I'm not sure they would work in your situation without a bit more detail.
