Fire TV Stick Question

Just got a refurbished stick with voice remote for $39. I've been using the newest Roku stick and love it but it doesn't have fox sports go and a few other apps I want.
My question is when I use the fire stick it is not very smooth and hangs up a lot while changing between apps. Just a very rough, sort of glitchy interface. Is this normal or is it possibly a product of being refurbished? Wondering if I should send it back and just get a regular one.

I don't have one myself, but it seems the consensus here is that they suck in general.

If you aren't using it for Kodi, it is kind of pointless.

Just install Kodi on it. Takes 10-15 minutes with a youtube video.

I already have Kodi on raspberry pi 2 which has loads more storage and performance so I don't need it for that.
I wanted TCMs app and Fox Sports Go plus its for a lake house that my parents will use too so it can't be complicated like Kodi can be at times for older, non tech savvy people.

I got the voice remote thinking it would be like Alexa or maybe Siri, but it kinda sucks. I don't really know the advantage of it over the reg remote.

If you can only get the app on a firestick then make sure you go in and clean out the cache regularly in the settings. I had 4 of the firesticks, but I have replaced 3 and soon will be replacing the 4th with better android boxes, they just don't have the memory or horsepower to do anything more than be barely functional.

Just give it a couple days. Will get all the apps downloaded at proper resolution then it will work like a charm.

How is your wifi? I got a new router this summer and performance improved dramatically. It was weird though, live streaming sports and other live stuff would be flawless. Try to watch Netflix and it would hang up sometimes. And even some of the Amazon streaming video would hang up. I got an Archer with the 5G band and the fire stick is the only thing connected to that band. Well, that and the Mac upstairs. Everything else I have connected to the 2.4G and have no problems.
