Win8 is and always has been a very good OS. You can question or dislike some design choices, but the bottom line is it is very solid. Vista was more of a Win7 beta, but it improved drastically after a service pack or two. The main problems with Vista were due to Microsoft making some pretty major changes to the underlying system, which were long overdue. But they had to modernize the system while maintaining backward compatibility with a huge existing library of software, and they did it while supporting an essentially infinite number of different hardware configurations. That is no easy feat, as evidenced by the fact that Apple doesn't even attempt it. They just stop supporting old hardware and software when they deem it necessary. Microsoft doesn't have that luxury, due to the fact that their software makes the world go 'round.

Microsoft does the hard stuff necessary to make business happen. So yeah, they deserve a pass every now and then as they continue to pull off the near impossible.

And by the way, I hate using Windows, and I run Linux pretty much exclusively.
