It looks like Google bought out Cloud Ready.
It's still in beta but I've had no issues running it on a Gigabyte mini PC...

It's missing the Google Play Store and the developers mode to run Linux but it may be what you need to get more life out of some old hardware without the Linux desktop learning curve.

Definitely a good option if you need to make use out of an older laptop, or for schools that can't afford to buy new chromebooks but have a shite ton of those old Dell Inspiron laptops still running Windows 7.

Wish they offered a way to use this on Chromebooks that are past the auto update life span

I have a PC with a Chromify version that added Play Store and Linux...
