Blown Laptop Subwoofer Causing Tinny Speaker Audio?

Was listening to music playing from my laptop speakers when there was a sudden drop in audio quality--it became tinny, hollow, no bass, quieter.
Audio quality from headphones is unchanged / A-OK.
I've tried every fix I could read about online--uninstalled and reinstalled IDT High Definition Audio drivers, ran all diagnostics, disabled enhancements and messed around with speaker properties without success. Restarted laptop, also tried a restore point. Nothing.
I am thinking maybe the laptop subwoofer stopped working? Or maybe it has a loose connection? What do you guys think?
Replacement subwoofers going for $10 dollars or less on eBay. Is it something anyone could easily replace by themselves? Or am I going to want to outsource the labor (local computer repair shop, Geek Squad, etc.)?
Service guide says the hard drive, optical drive, keyboard, top cover and USB board would have to be taken out to get to the subwoofer. Sounds kind of involved...
HP ENVY dv6t-7300 CTO Quad Edition Notebook PC (2012-ish)
IDT High Definition Audio drivers
With Beats Audio™ and quad speakers with subwoofer
Subwoofer spare part number 682097-001
Windows 10 Home
Thank you.

Take it to a local repair shop. Preferably one that is authorized by HP.
