Rip your audio cd's using Exact audio copy or something comparable.
Store them on external hard drives on your main pc and share them out.
Download "FE File Explorer Pro from the appstore. I think it's $4. You can stream from your pc's external hard drives in real time to FE or download them to store locally on your ipad inside FE. I used the Pro version because it allows me to have 7 pc's mapped to my phone.
The lite version of FE is free and may work perfectly well for you.
All of the above can be done w/o dealing with iTunes which can be enough to make a minister swear.
