Any difference in performance b/t Apple AirPods and other mfg on iPhone?

I keep hearing that there is a performance issue with non-Apple earbuds on the iPhones.
Curious if that is true. I’m going to go try a different brand than Apple this time.

im not a fan of apple peripherals as ive been extremely disappointed with them....my wife got some jbl earbuds and has loved them...no complaints...i use a pair of aftershokz with my iphone...we're all iphones in the house

I have the Samsung Galaxy buds. They connect and work fine, but you can’t control them like you can with an android phone. However, even with the limitations, I still use them more than my AirPods Pro.
