To be fair, we don't know that yet.

I think we have the talent to be there and surpass them once again, but no matter how many guys we have playing 1st team in the big four leagues, until we start to show results based on that talent, it's all still potential until then.

It's why what we do this week and next is so big.

If you include "being competitive against", then I don't see how we aren't there.

I mean, we're competitive in the sense that we're not getting blown out by them, but we have only one win against them in our last six matches. There hasn't been that type of results discrepancy in the rivalry since before the first dos a cero.

And that one win was a glorified u-23 match.

There's no sugar coating it, we've fallen way behind Mexico the last 6 years. Now, I think that is about to shift the other way, but until we actually see the results, we can't properly call what is happening right now progress at the full national team level.

You literally said that if we play like we did against Switzerland, then we will likely lose to Honduras.

Quote it. The closest I came to that is the “living dangerously” quote. I’ve simply said it isn’t out of the realm of feasibility.

quote:

Without Tyler Adams, who is basically part of the back 3 when we're on the attack and facing the counter from that attack.

That's a very big piece missing that you have failed to mention and haven't even acknowledged when I've mentioned it.

Because I mentioned it very early and based half my OP on him being out for a bit.

quote:

What analytics have you provided?

OP has the problem area and 2 feasible fixes.

Comments like these are why this comes off as a melt for you.

Someone goes against what you're saying and your plan of action is to say that they are wasting energy and should leave the thread.

Not a good look, mate.

Not sure how it makes me look a-melt.

You came in here and shite on the premise of the thread by telling me to read a different one that was no-doubt not as in-depth as I wanted this discussion to be.

Instead I get pot-shots from you acting like I have melted over something when I am bringing up logical issues in the scenario that Adams isn’t good to go this week, and pvilleguru making half-related points that aren’t real contributions to the OP at-hand.

Not a melt. Just telling you that you should pick a lane. Tell me to read another thread and leave, or stick around and contribute.

*Disclaimer- This is only in response to this post. I saw you guys posted more, so I’ll read that too.

Right on the money.

Which is why I still have concerns when I see a tune-up match look as discombobulated as ours did, knowing Mexico May well be on the horizon. Pulisic can’t help the defense out, and Yueill not Acosta are good enough to really trust against better teams like Switzerland and Mexico.

I’m all for wait and see, but if we don’t get some team chemistry with a starting XI pretty quick, and make sure our back line and mids are on the same page regardless of who they are, we are in for a long summer/fall.

This is what you said when I said we are better than Honduras:

"Not if we play like we did against Switzerland."

Seems pretty straight forward from you.

My lane has been pretty consistent... we weren't that bad against Switzerland. But you can't seem to handle that.

As far as telling you to read another thread, I said that because you were complaining there was no discussion/debate about the match. I said that there was and was merely telling you where it was.

Me telling you that you're melting aside, I didn't mean the "go look at the match thread" part as an insult.

You were the one that was telling me to leave this thread because, again, you can't seem to handle the fact that you're overreacting over the result of a European friendly.

That's really all we can do for now.

We have yet to play Mexico since Gregg left the 4-4-2 low block in favor of the 4-3-3 high press. If we lose to Mexico in a week because they continually break us down, then the same questions from the 2019 loss to Canada will again arise in regards to Gregg.

But freaking out that this won't work because the Swiss countered on us a couple of times in a road friendly is a little much, especially considering that was probably the first time Mark McKenzie and John Brooks met each other, let alone played together.

I’m going to ignore that previous post because there seem to have been some pretty fundamental misunderstandings of intentions by both of us.

If I melted at all, it was because I perceived the “read the other thread” as an insult. You addressed that, and I apologize for that.

As for the OP, I don’t think that my observations were a). wrong or b). unjustified by any means. Hell, Jurgen was lambasted before he even selected a team more often than not while he was managing. I don’t think my OP was half as bad as the stuff we saw back then.

I really was being level-headed in my thoughts on what happened and how we can adjust for having less than serviceable #6 subs (in my opinion).

Can't make any roster changes due to injury after tonight, so this is good news.

quote:

Jonathan Tannenwald @thegoalkeeper
15m
Gregg Berhalter on Tyler Adams:

"Signs are looking good that he's making progress."

Which would imply he's staying on the roster.
