where does this come from and why not? it makes perfect sense to me

From an article earlier this year...

quote:

Kemsley’s background in real estate has involved lawsuits, and it’s clear that MLS Commissioner Don Garber has never regarded Kemsley as someone he wants to do business with. Garber has always hedged when asked for his opinion on having the reborn Cosmos in the league. A typical answer was: “They need to believe in the MLS system, which is not about one team dominating everybody else, like the Cosmos did 30 years ago. If they don’t believe in our system, we won’t sell them the team.”

That was the way Garber tended to talk when the Cosmos name came up. How much would the franchise cost? Considering that the most recent expansion team, the Portland Timbers, paid a reported $40 million, it seemed likely that the new figure would be around $60 million. But Garber came up with $100 million, which looked to many like a greatly exaggerated figure designed to deter the Cosmos group.

Yea, Garber has been consistently cool in his responses toward anything Cosmos over the past several years.

In addition to an unfavorable disposition toward the Cosmos ownership, Garber and MLS have never been high on the idea of resurrecting the Cosmos identity, considering the brand to be too highly known as a soccer failure...as a high profile franchise that ultimately failed at soccer in the US. Garber wanted a new team with a new identity backed by an approved ownership.

Except for those on this board, I really don´t think anyone in the US has any fricking clue as to the Cosmos and club history. Really. This is plain stupid.

Odd comment indeed, Surely there aren't many shieks in NYC. Possibly he's talking about man city fans?

I'm going out on a limb and say that he's referring to Muslims or Arabs in general.

kinda weak I guess, probably could have made a better attempt at it but didn't want to tread any lines that would border on offensive. have been on a gaucho type run here recently, I'll tone it down.

Alright, let's get this thread back in order.

What kind of budget will these iron sheikhs be willing to work with?

Could we see a PSG-type meteoric rise in quality in one offseason once the club is firmly established, or are we more likely to see them go all in on just one guy like Eto'o ?

I don´t know you, and I apologize profusely for what I´m about to say.

What fricking rock did you and your ilk crawl out form under?

If you live in NY, you know that forever you´ve had ethnicities of all genre, how the hell can you qualify them as vile or unwanted, in opposition to others?

They will play in a new stadium scheduled to break ground next year or in 2014. The stadium will be located in Corona Park in Flushing Meadow, specifically at the Fountain of Planets. This is an area that is largely chained off and in somewhat disrepair in an otherwise nice park. It is surrounded by several soccer fields that are derelict.

The plans look fantastic. This area of Corona Park will be completely refurbished. New soccer fields will be developed in the park and will be well maintained. The stadium will seat 25K with plans to increase to 35K within 10 years if demand is warranted.

I can't wait to start hating this club.
