It's not going to magically eliminate owners from doing just enough to stay up.

Could it help? Sure. But it's not some cure-all that people make it out to be.

Are you dumb?

His point was owners in the franchise model can suck and still get their money.

While in a football pyramid if you suck and keep sucking you don't get that tv money and other sponsorship,

Guess it depends on what you definition of sucking is. Is constantly finishing ~15th in a 20 team league not sucking?

The point is they have to field a quality enough team to stay up. So the owners tend to actually care some what

Would you rather stay up or go down?

Why do people on here have to explain the simplest shite to you

Is finishing in the bottom 25% of the league sucking? You can do that fairly consistently and still reap the rewards from tv deals, ticket sales, etc.

Yea thanks for avoiding the question

Its all about context of the system. Something you clearly do not understand.

There is no real penalty for not being good in the franchise system. In a football pyramid there is.

Again, what do you consider "good". Is just staying up "good" for you? If so, fine, I'll drop it. But I don't consider just hanging around to be "good".

Ok you really are not that bright

but ill lay it out for you

In England for example in the 4 tier professional structure being in the bottom 25% of the first division is considered being good.

Ask anyone and they would rather be in the EPL as a 15th place club than lets say Sunderland right now.

So yes being in the first division is good

But in the franchise system you can just sit around and suck and nothing happens.

In an ultra-competitive league, you would need owners with vision just to stay up, as the race for good players would increase exponentially.

You would not see teams that have been run poorly or barebones in the league for long periods, as the team has to be good enough at some point in the pyramid. The biggest benefit of relegation is that it improves the 2nd tier as well, on down the pyramid.

It's not a cure-all, but in general it is a better way of designing a soccer league. It is slightly unwieldy to introduce into America, where the franchise system is here to stay.

Ok. I guess we just have different opinions of what's "good".

Do you think the job Bournemouth has done to get to the EPL is good? What about Swansea City circa 2010?

In context, what those clubs did with limited resources qualifies as good to me. But will those clubs ever be able to compete with the top 6 on a consistent level? No. At least, not for another ten to twenty years.

First division. But just being better does not equal being good, especially when someone was talking about fighting for playoff positions.

You are special, bless your heart.

But now that we have established which division is better. Would you rather be 14th in the first division. Basically the 14th best club in the country out of roughly a 100 pro clubs. Or would you want to be 3rd in the 3rd division.

Is that a consistent #14, or am I occasionally jumping into that top ten with a few chances to win some cups?

wow

the answer is pretty obvious what is a better situation to compare 14th in at the top vs 3rd in the 3rd tier.

If that is the question, then give me #14.

But if the question is which I would rather be, that's tougher.
