The Timbers-Sounders match got the highest rating for any MLS regular-season game on ESPN since 2001. Maybe that's because England-Italy was the lead-in but still a good sign.

For sure, but I think they're mindful of not pulling something like a USFL and overextending themselves. The football comparison is apt because the league they're modeling themselves after is the NFL more than any other...

No. The conference system works well with the playoffs, which is what they will keep, I think. They want to Europeanize the league some, but they don't want to make any drastic changes.
Right now I think they're planning on eventually getting to 24 teams, 12 in each conference. From there you can raise cap space and handle player rights.
The five spots to get to 24, I think, will be:
- NYC (a real team in that area, not NJ)
- Southeast (Atlanta or Carolinas, maybe even Nashville)
- Florida (Orlando)
- St. Louis
- Either San Antonio, Phoenix, or San Diego

I have read suggestions about both Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Unless they intend to build Qatar-style stadiums for the death of summer, that would be a miserable failure.
If I lived in either of those places, I'd be a diehard. But not a rat's chance in hell I'm watching outdoor soccer in the middle of the desert in July.

Orlando City, a USL side, has great support and an impressive club setup. Think a smaller version of what Seattle has done in MLS. Adrian Heath is their head coach and they have great turnouts for matches against MLS and EPL teams. They are pushing hard for a soccer-specific stadium and a "promotion" to MLS.

It would have to be like the D'Backs do it in Phoenix on a smaller scale. Retractable roof with a great A/C system that runs full blast up until kickoff. That way you can play on grass, have an optional dome-like atmosphere, and not die of heat stroke.

Since Benson bought the Hornets I dream of them becoming like european sports clubs having the football, basketball and hopefully soccer all being part of the same organization.

I don't keep much track of the mls, but I would if there was a team in the southeast. Are there any current mls teams that are in danger of folding or changing locations? I'm in Montgomery. The nearest team is about 10 hours away.

No talk of changing locations. Your best bet is an expansion team coming to Atlanta. Arthur Blank (Falcons owner) has been fighting for a franchise, although he's got his hands full with the talk of this new open-air stadium downtown.
