Theoretically, if we have a defender starting and he in fact doesn't start, can we list one sub to play in his place as a fall back?
Or are we just screwed and don't get points from that player because he didn't start?
For Example: If I start Gary Cahill for Chelsea, but Luiz gets the start. Could I have Steven Taylor listed as my sub and get his points?
I'm good either way, just need to know how early I need to wake up to check line ups every saturday.

Your sub can only sub for the position he plays.
df can only sub for df, mf for mf, fw for fw and gk for gk

If you have a sub that is a defender, he'll take his spot. Taylor would automatically get points for you instead of a 0 for Cahill.
If you have two sub midfielders and one of your starting midfielders doesn't start, then the sub who scored the most points will take his place in the lineup when I tally the scores.
