Crazy, Crouch is not good in the air. Never has been, never will be. He has simply gotten better. He is another type of player trapped in a 6'7 frame.

The stats say otherwise. He's not a great jumper, but he knows how to maximize his height.

Precisely.

How are we defining good in the air? Nearly 50% of his PL goals have come from headers. That's an absolutely insane percentage.

The stats
mean little in soccer, only in very measurable occasions (which aren't many). This is the beauty of the game. Part of the beauty.

If you've scored more goals with your head than your feet, you're good in the air.

edit: sorry, he's scored slightly less. still, point stands he's much better in the air than most give him credit for.

I think it means he's at least good in the air. Stats may not be the end all that they are in basketball and baseball, but they still mean something in soccer. Certainly you can draw the wrong conclusions from them. If you score that many headed goals, you're at least "good" in the air.

I don't know what others have given him credit for. I do know he's not a header machine or threat, but does know what to do when the opportunity is presented. I rest my case.

An absolutely absurd statement.

His goal scoring record with his head is an inevitable one. All it takes is 90 minutes watching him play to see that he is poor in the air.

Of course, I'm all about context. But I refuse to believe the rather tired "not good in the air line" when in fact he's as good as you would expect him to be.

Wrong.

Give me his crosses:goals ratio and that might make me consider otherwise.

You mean, not good as he should be given his height. Like I said, he's a poor jumper, but he's a good header of the ball. When I think of poor in the air, I think Adebayor. Crouch is just awkward.

After knowing him as a player, were he to have 5+ headers per season, I'd say he's good.

Were I to not know him, and judge him based upon his height, I'd be underwhelmed at best.

That's true, I'll admit. I misstated. That would include 1 headed goal to zero headed goals.

What the frick does that mean? He's tall so of course he'll score headers but he isn't good in the air!

We're making 'headway' in this conversation.

You're the one with the EPL Index account. Look it up.

I'm just saying, Tim Cahill is considered great in the air and he has 31 PL goals from headers, the most in PL history (according to indisputable source Wikipedia!). Crouch had 27 in 2010.

Then because of his ridiculous height and nothing else, he's good in the air.
