First time coaching soccer. Didn’t play it growing up. So any advice or recommendation on a book for coaching up kids this young?

Always a high press. Unless the opponent has a talented and cohesive back line.

Or just try to get them to not chase butterflies.

Whichever is easier.

1) Put ball in field
2) Point and tell them which goal it goes in
3) ???
4) Profit

be patient, you’ll have a few kids who will test it

make it fun, chances are you aren’t coaching the next ronaldo

encourage them, goes a long way

soccer moms are hit or miss, i’ve seen some aggressive, loud, and emotional ones and some who treat it like a daycare and don’t say shite, and some who understand how difficult it is to teach that age, just stand your ground

involve the parents to help you if they are willling, some are cool about it

haven’t don’t in years but i enjoyed my time as a coach, really love seeing the kids grow and the excitement in their face when they do something well

Most important thing at that age is getting touches with the ball. Do drills at practices getting used to having the ball at their feet. Red light, green light, sharks and minnows, and tag are a few. The games will be chaotic with them just chasing the ball.
