Anyone see the Elite 11 thing they showed on ESPNU yesterday? It was pretty cool, about this years elite 11 camp, how they selected the participants etc.. I am sure it will be replayed a number of times.

Best programs of the past 5 years

CFN did a thing on the top programs of the past 5 years. Counted wins over FBS, quality wins, draft picks etc.. to come up with a scoring system.

Good game so far. CA is up, but Georgia is rallying.

Dammit!

USC starting corner Shareece Wright is academically ineligible.

Notre Dame

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/27/09 at 3:36 pm
I think for the 1st time in history that Notre Dame is actually underrated. Throwing their schedule aside for a moment, I would not be surpised in the least if they were among the top-15 teams in the nation. LVSC has Notre Dame ranked 11th in their pre-season power poll. Line for the Nevada game opened at 17 and is now down to 14. I am thinking that fading the public here is the smart move, though I would love to see it go to 13.5

The entire LVSC preseason top-25

Florida 121.4 1 Great Gators Team
2 Oklahoma 118.4 3 Bradford gets the pub… OL & DL are awesome.
3 Southern Cal 117.8 2 Trojans face tough road tests at Ohio State, Cal & ND.
4 Texas 117.7 4 Tough to hook these 'Horns.
5 Ohio State 112.2 6 Pryor's anticipated improvement and new offense.
6 Alabama 111.4 7 Saban's solid recruiting reaps rewards.
7 Mississippi 111.2 10 Nutts about their chances.
8 Penn State 110.7 5 Joe Pa reloads… Schedule works in Lions favor.
9 California 109.2 16 Tedford gets Trojans at home (10/3).
10 Texas Christian 109.0 12 Frogs won't sneak up on anyone this year.
11 Notre Dame 108.5 NR Weis has weapons. Can he coach'em up.
12 Oklahoma State 108.3 16 Cowboys are a buzz team in Vegas.
13 LSU 108.2 28 Talented Tigers with five revenge games on schedule.
14 Iowa 108.1 15 Last yrs 4 losses by a total of 12 points.
15 Oregon 107.2 13 Kelly hand picked for the job.
16 Illinois 107.1 NR Zook & Williams lead Illini.
17 Virginia Tech 106.5 27 Beamer's a proven winner. Special Team.
18 Nebraska 106.4 25 Pelini won 10 in his first season. Go Huskers.
19 Georgia 106.1 11 Richt has won 10+ games in 6 of 8 seasons.
20 Boise State 105.6 14 Favorite over Ducks in opener.
21 Florida State 105.4 20 Bowden's farewell tour?
22 Kansas 105.3 26 Not always pretty, but Reesing just wins.
23 Clemson 105.1 30 Eight starters back on D.
24 Miami 105.0 NR BRUTAL schedule, but Hurricanes are getting talent again.
25 Georgia Tech 104.9 NR Paul Johnson can flat out coach!!!
25 Texas Tech 104.9 8 Big coaching challenge for Leach… His system works.
27 Rutgers 104.7 21 Cupcake schedule helps the cause.
28 North Carolina 104.5 NR Butch Davis' 3rd year. Fewest lettermen lost in ACC.
29 Pittsburgh 104.3 22 Coming off Wannstedt's first winning season.
29 South Florida 104.3 NR Florida leftovers… Not too bad.

Hate this rule

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/26/09 at 3:52 pm
This new rule about being ejected for a violent hit while leadig with the helmet is going to cost some teams a game. It is near impossible to tell at very high speeds if a player is leading with his head or leading with his shoulder.

This is a clear bias to enable ref's to punish USC. To alow this very arbitrary decision to affect so much is ridiculous. If anything this should only be determined by replay.

ucla's offensive line

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/26/09 at 12:01 pm
LOL at the bRuins. 2 Sophs, 2 true freshmen, and a 1st year Juco transfer are going to make up the starting line for ucla. I am not sure it woudl be possible to be worse than their offensive line last season, but they just might do it.

Corp

Aaron Corp came back today for his first full pad practice since being injured and was very sharp. Barkley threw 2 picks.

No matter the jurisdiction, laws exist to help us get a look at the information the American Football Coaches Association doesn't want us to see. When it decided to make the post-conference championship game USA Today Coaches Poll ballots secret beginning in the 2010 season, the AFCA ignored one glaring fact: Most of the coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision work for public universities. That means everything those coaches do is subject to the open records law in their particular state. That includes each week's coaches poll ballot.

So beginning Tuesday, SI.com will file records requests with the employer of each of the 51 public school coaches who vote in the 2009 poll. If the schools comply with the law, we should get a look at every ballot. Legal action may be required if schools refuse to comply, but if a recent case involving Florida State and the NCAA is any indication, judges likely will support the people asking that highly paid public employees be held accountable for their actions. Every ballot we receive will be published.
List the 10 most important ooc games for each conference. I will start with the PAC-10

1. USC @ Ohio St No descrition necessary

2. Oregon @ Boise St Getting a raod win over a 10+ win team would be huge

3. Cincinatti @ Oregon St. Oregon St is usually on the road for their bigger ooc opponents. Very important that they handle thier business at home vs a bcs conference champion contender

4. Arizona vs CMU. Important for a mid-level PAC-10 team to beat the front runner for the MAC champion at home. A loss would be a black eye

5. Ucla @ Tennessee. This game matches 2 teams that should be of equal standing in their respective conferences. THe PAC-10 usually wins these types of matchups, but it could be tough going all the way across the country.

6. Stanford @ Wake Forest. For Stanford to turn the coner they need this road win. Important for the PAC-10 to have a mid-level team beat a mid-level ACC team.

7. Kansas St. @ ucla. This is a must win game for the PAC-10. Kansas St will likely be a lower tier Big-12 team so ucla losing a home game to them would hurt the conference.

8. Utah @ Oregon. Another must win. After last years debacle vs MWC teams Oregon really needs to put on Utah in a bad way.

9. CAL @ Minnessota. At first look this should be an easy win for CAL. Not so fast. The game is in Minnessota who should be better than they were last year and most importantly the game is a 9:00 am PST start time. We all saw how poorly CAL played at this same start time last season vs Maryland. They need to prepare themselves all week for the early start time. A couple of practices that week before school instead of after would help.

10. Arizona @ Iowa. This is more of a can't lose game. Iowa shoudl be a top 4 Big-10 team while Arizona is more of a middle road PAC-10 team and the game is @ Iowa. A win would be a larger feather in the cap.

We need

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/24/09 at 11:40 pm
We need to have an ATS contest for this CFB season. How do we get this going.

Best 7th rouder and UFA's at this point

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/23/09 at 11:02 pm
Who do you guys think are the best rookies that were either drafted in the 7th round or went undrafted this preseason?

I would go with Sammie Stroughter at Tampa Bay, and Nick Reed at Seattle

A Travesty

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/22/09 at 11:22 pm
Watching the Arizona v Chargers preseason game. Zona receiver runs a seam pattern and right when he catches the ball the Charger saftey puts his shoulder in the receivers chest to cause the incompletion. Textbook football 101. These cocksucking officials call a personal foul, unnecessary roughness penalty. Total bs. Now this is just a glorified practice so it means nothing here, but they are going to pull this shite next season in CFB. Especially these sorry arse PAC-10 officials who loe to call these type of penalties against USC. I fear for the safety of my funiture when this happens.

LLWS -Streak for cash

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/22/09 at 4:37 pm
It seems as if ESPN has most of these games on their Streak for Cash. Chula Vista vs Kentucky is not an option though. I guess Kentucky is not very good.

Carl Moore

Is Carl Moore transferring out of Florida?

Another injury for USC

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/20/09 at 5:44 pm
Starting DE Armond Armstead is out with a broken foot. Surgery for tomorrow and will be out at least 6 weeks

This is a much worse injury for USC than O'Dowd going down. Amrmstead was a athletic 295 lbs. Huge things were expected out of him this season. Now we may have to move Everson Griffen from weak-side DE to Strong Side. Possibly this could open the door for True freshmen Devon Kennard.

Sun Bowl; ACC replaces the Big East

Posted by MJRuffalo on 8/19/09 at 2:11 pm

The Sun Bowl has decided to sign on with the ACC instead of the Big East for 2010-2013 seasons. It will be the #4 Pac10 vs #5 ACC:

The Sun Bowl football selection committee voted today to go with the Atlantic Coast Conference over the Big East Conference for the next bowl cycle from 2010-13, Sun Bowl committee chairman John Folmer told The Tampa Tribune.
The Sun Bowl, played in El Paso, Texas, will get the fifth selection from the ACC and the fourth selection from the Pac-10. The Big East had offered its third selection or Notre Dame when available, but Folmer said his committee thought the ACC offered more.
"At the end of the day it was based on what overall we thought is best for the people of El Paso," Folmer said. "We haven't seen the ACC in so long, we think it will be good."
"It was a hard decision – 10 times harder than last time. We've made so many good friends in the Big East. They did everything in their power to make it happen and I think the ACC did also. It was just the matter of how our people felt at the end of the day and we wanted to go in a different direction."
