Calhoun has to be the second most important historical figure from South Carolina after Andrew Jackson. Vice President under Quincy Adams and Jackson, Secretary of State, Secretary of War, US Senator, and a congressman.

We should replace it with a statue of Preston Brooks beating the ever-loving shite out of that yankee Sumner

No, it's the name of the lawyer in Amos and Andy.
Alconquin J. Calhoun.
Kingfish: 'Ya gotta help me, Calhoun.'
Calhoun: 'Well, what ya got is a case of the ipso facto. I can help ya.'
Kingfish: 'How much will it cost?'
Calhoun: 'Well, it'll be fifteen dollars for the ipso and ten dollars for the facto.'

Native South Carolinians should despise Jackson because of his actions during the Nullification Crisis. I'd rather NC claim him.

Brooks's cenotaph is on the first floor at the Caroliniana Library on the Horseshoe. It was moved there from Ninety-Six in the 1930's.

Okay, then Calhoun is the most important SC figure in history. He accurately predicted the nullification crisis and the tariffs directed against southern states would cause a civil war
