Gaetz. Much to the chagrin of DeSantis and his fans. But look for changing "alliances" on this later, by necessity.
He made Johnson possible by his manipulative parliamentary style.
Even though it might have happened strictly by an alignment of the stars/happenstance, he did something that is so rare among the Repubs. He outslicked and prevailed over the Left.
They were all enthusiastic and had it all figured out how they would vote tactically with Gaetz to oust McCarthy, believing that they would paint him into a corner, forcing him to choose an even weaker candidate than McCarthy.
We wound up with a better one by just about every measure. The Left lost on this one.
Now Gaetz is on the national stage, and is in the conversation.
He has it all over DeSantis beginning with his visage, his voice timbre and delivery, his ability to parry and prevail over the vindictive verbal assaults and attempted trickery of the Left.
As was so evident in his performance 3 weeks ago on Meet the Press. In how he handled Welker in her attempt to corner him and paint him as a hypocrite regarding him changing his mind about "removing Speakers of the House."
He didn't allow her to win with her typical tactics.
And apparently there are no high-heel problems.

Sadly, I fear you are correct. The nation is too far gone and education was replaced with indoctrination more than 50 years ago in our schools. People aren't even smart enough to question what they were "taught" in government schools. There really may be no way out of this.
