It's astonishing isn't it?
Quite.

Our intel guys were "do" boys and janitors of the hallways.
Luckily, doing what I did, I didn't have that specific problem until my time on ship. By then I was a SSgt and still didn't have that problem.

HAHA, yeah. You were a Marine, correct?
From my experience, MI in the Marines is serious business. Nothing like what the Army MI guys typically do.
I don't want to disparage every Army MI guy, there are some wonderful, hard working dudes there. It's just that as a branch, they aren't used effectively. That has nothing to do with how capable they are/aren't. More to do with the culture of the Army and senior leaders really.

There is just so much to talk about when it comes to intel man. As with everything our DOD and CIA do, the level of efficacy is just as much dependent on those executing it, as it is the mission they are asked to execute. Our foreign policy has been so bad for so long, that people at the bottom have forgotten what it's like to win on the regular. When nothing makes any sense, and you get a new boss every 4 years (and he is only working for 2 of that) then people start thinking really hard about what they can do for #1 instead of who we are supposedly doing this stuff for (Americans).
That's what I saw anyway. I'm pretty sure it's not just me either.

I was on an RRT. Not really along those lines.

Sounds fairly typical.

Nope, not at all. Consistency and longevity would go a long way.

Their strength is they generally have the support of the American people.
Their weakness is they've been infiltrated by political hacks over the last 16 years.
That excellent response should probably end the thread.

Do not forget that during the campaign, it came out that the intelligence agents in the field, those putting their lives at risk, were complaining that what they were reporting to their superiors was not what was being reported by those superiors to the POTUS. Point being, the various heads of the U.S. intelligence committees were playing politics. Which is exactly what POTUS elect Trump has been claiming. The CIA has been the biggest political tool of them all, going back to the Bay of Pigs political invasion. Taking anything the CIA reports as being credible is foolish. Comey at the FBI has already shown his inability to stand above politics regardless of which side of the fence you consider him.

quote:Almost every CI dude I worked with came from the combat arms. You have to be an E-5 to even apply. The selection process is pretty tough. You have to write an essay on why you want it, be interviewed by senior CI guys, and then of course pass the course which is like 9 months. I considered doing it myself but I've had to stand in front of the man a few too many times....Sorry for partying.

I'm pretty sure all USMC ground intel officers have to go to IOC as well.
