Leverage on the world stage. Kim takes notice. Trade partners knows this president is for real. Unlike the previous jerk this one does what he says he will do.

Whatever was sent to these targets certainly didn't get shot down by Syria.

Explain to the audience what the good reason is for continuous reliance on foreign oil (among other highly valuable resources such as the poppy fields in Afghanistan) and policing of an unstable part of the world who hates us to begin with. You know, the thing causes other developed nations to hold us in contempt. The thing that we spend trillions of dollars for with nothing to show but marginally cheaper oil prices and enough opium to fill all those pain-killer prescriptions we so desperately need more of.

As soon as you explain to me how oil factors into our intervention in Syria. We haven't imported a single drop of oil from that country since September 2011 when we imported 641,000 barrels from within their borders. Just 0.19% of the 338 million barrels we imported from abroad in that particular month.

Money makes the world go 'round my friend. If we continually draw red lines in the sand, and then back off when said red lines are crossed, people will begin to push us around at the negotiating table. We told Assad that if he was to use chemical weapons against his people, there would be consequences. Sometimes you need to back up your words with action.

If you continually fail to back up your talk, people begin to fear you less and less.

I like that you picked out a single point in my post to address. The point at large was that we shouldn't be in the region and I used past examples of the ulterior motive inside of our decision to engage.

Which is exactly my point. That's the ultimate reason we're in Syria - and no, I don't necessarily believe oil money is directly involved.

I agree that if we make lines in the sand we must back it up.

But why is a chemical weapon a line in the sand?

Because if you're going to kill your own people, you have to do it quickly with bombs and guns
