They will squeeze blood out of turnip if they can. Don’t kid yourself. I don’t blame them, but this might not be the time. The higher import prices will give them an advantage. Trump doesn’t want them to abuse it.

Do we really want top-down pricing just to prop up a policy decision?

He needs to not do this stuff. It’s not your fricking job, Trump. You put the tariffs on companies and inflated their costs. You did this. Now you tell companies that they shouldn’t raise their prices in response or else… He could do the same thing to me in this scenario. It’s BS.

True.
US Automakers, like any business who retain the prerogative of product-pricing will seek & find their own proper level of profitability. It is still not the prerogative of govt to dictate profit margins and policy of particular sectors of US manufacturing & production or of goods & services.

Same thing happened with tariffs last time he did this. Samsung and LG increased their prices to make up for the tariffs, Kenmore and GE raised their prices to increase profits.
Consumers ultimately pay.

Yikes. Not even a basic understanding of the facts. He was telling US automakers the White House would look down on prices increasing. The tariffs are on foreign auto makers.

Foreign goods as well. Which US automakers use. A lot.

Should be called Automotive Serviceships.

Yep, and if you cross the Sabine to get the same vehicle in Texas because it's $5k less, you gonna get taxed on that savings if you want to register it in Louisiana.
Yeah fricking bullshite. I bought a car and happen to move to LA shortly after and they said I owed them money lol

Then that isn’t the price hike he was referencing, clearly. Did you read the quote?

I agree. They are free to choose their own strategy. Im not sure how the luxury side of the market will be affected. BMW and Mercedes buyers aren’t going to buy a Navigator, Wagoneer, or Escalade. I think manufacturers could gain a larger market share in the mid range models and lower. They could probably gain a huge market share there if they don’t over do it price wise.

Asked by NBC News’ Kristen Welker in a phone interview about whether he pressured automakers to avoid raising prices after his 25% tariffs on imported cars and parts go into effect, Trump denied that he told CEOs to control costs. “No, I never said that,” Trump told Welker. “I couldn’t care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American cars.”

I've been beating this drum for years, populism is how you convert conservatives to Democrats.

Correct.
His economics are out of the 1800s and no longer apply.
Stop listening to populist idiots. Youre being led down the road to progressivism.
Next thing you know, Trump will float raising taxes on the rich (hint, he already has)

No. They’re on foreign made vehicles and parts that are of foreign origin. Whether that is Ford, Kia or Aston Martin doesn’t matter. As of April 3rd he has increased costs on all automakers that produce or procure from overseas.
