It's pretty simple:
1) rural voters are largely republican, live in a lower-risk environment for covid19 infection, and will show up at the voting booth maskless regardless.
2) urban and suburban voters are largely Democrat, live in a higher-risk environment for covid19 infection, and are less likely to show up at the voting booth because of the virus
3) Trump knows based on the taskforce projections that October is going to be a brutal month for covid19 statistics..
We joke about 4D chess but having the election date locked in firm around the time the virus is cresting.. virtually guarantees a trump re-election. It explains the support for anti-lockdown protests and refusing to wear a mask for so long too.. a few thousand additional casualties in a war to save our republic and Constitution is a very small price to pay
