There were probably a few who were more authentically gay than der Märchenkönig (no proof he acted out, right). Also, I don't think his powers approached that of an autocrat. Bavaria was punked by Prussia for siding with the Austrians in the Austro-Prussian war a few years after he succeeded to the throne, and was absorbed into the German Empire some years later (as a de facto client state of Prussia at the time).
