Sorry, I meant no offense.
None taken brother. I do agree that it is over diagnosed and used as a crutch for parents who just don’t want to parent. Some kids are just a little more to deal with than others and require stronger/stricter parenting as was the case with my son and I think most of the diagnosed ADHD kids. But some lazy arse parents use the medication as an easy out.
But in the few true cases such as my grandson, I’m glad there is medical help available. It is so bad that without the medication you can’t even really have a conversation with him. His thoughts are just moving so fast in his mind that it is hard for him to process them quick enough to verbalize them coherently. This and other issues led him to being constantly in a state of frustration which led to anger issues and outbursts. And when he would truly do something wrong that required some form of discipline or even just a stern word he couldn’t process it and would run and hide under his bed or in the closet.
The medication has slowed things down in his mind so that he can process things normally like you and I would. No more anger issues or outbursts. And he is a really sharp kid and I so much enjoy the conversations we can have now. It took a little bit to find the right balance with the meds. The first thing they had him on, he was like a zombie. He was calm but it absolutely killed his personality and desire to do ,well ,really anything. She had them keep backing off on the dosage until it was right. And as I mentioned she has done a ton of research on how diet impacts behavior and is very selective on what she lets him eat.
It has also worked out well that my SIL loves him like his own son and he is not the sit around on the recliner type of guy. He is big into hunting, fishing and loves to build shite. Whatever he’s doing, he has my grandson with him teaching him how to do it. Keeps him very busy and active which is really good for him.
