TIL: The origin of 'political correctness'

The first time I read the term was D'Souza's book 'Illiberal Education' in 1991. But I didn't know where he got it.
It was Mao Tse-Tung in the early 1960s. He used the term to describe those who had 'scientifically correct' views and those who did not as well as 'politically correct views' and those who did not.
It was introduced to America by Marcuse in 1965 with his 'progressive tolerance'... the idea that discourse should not be open and free. Some thoughts must not be expressed and those who express them must be silenced.
He realized that free speech was going to be difficult to eradicate in American culture because it was so ingrained since the founding, so his goal was to get it done on the college campuses and those students would grow into adults with their minds falling in line.

Not too many people are aware of who Herbet Marcuse was and his incredibly horrible impact on the West has been.
He was one of the major forces behind Critical Theory, which EXPLICITLY rejects logic...which explains why today's "Progressives" can have a worldview filled w one contradiction after the other.
