True. You need to begin to reject the notion that he and the Party are useless because "powerful people contribute to them, and tell them how to vote", and start accepting the reality that there's no other explanation for their behavior other than they are, personally, compromised.

I don't think it's blackmail. They are willing participants. They lie to get elected as republicans pretending to be conservatives. The left has infiltrated the Republican party.

There is speculation online that Thune is dragging this out to be timed with the ODNI investigations into election fraud in 2020.
The ones who believe Thune is impossibly compromised and only loyal to the swamp contingency see it as a pincer maneuver by Trump to raise the temperature under Thune.
Blow the lid off 2020 and Thune will not only have no choice but to hold the vote in the clear, but do so knowing that it'll pass overwhelmingly.
The truth about 2020 has the potential to be the 9/11 of election security in terms of the impact and rightful public outrage generated in the wake of what actually happened.
(Of course 9/11 itself has the potential to be an imperfect metaphor since we haven't gotten the whole story on that, either, but I digress...)

It's just like that yahoo in AZ doubling down on #MuhSecureElection. They HAVE to at this point. It's their only play.
This is an existential crisis for them and the possibilities of drawing a winning hand get more and more out of reach.
